US automakers Ford Motor and Chrysler, yesterday announced the recall of nearly 56,000 vehicles between them on safety related issues.

Ford is recalling 33,728 of its 2010 Transit Connect vans to fix the pushpins holding the overhead material in the headliners. It said in a statement that the pushpins do not meet regulators requirements for head protection.

The recalled vehicles were manufactured between 5 December 2008 and 31May 2010.

Chrysler is recalling 22,118 of its 2010 Dodge Nitro, Dodge Ram, Liberty and Wrangler models of Jeep on defective brake tubes problems that could potentially lead to a loss of brake fluid and reduce braking performance leading to a possible crash.

Both the carmakers said that were no reports of accidents or injury relating to the problems.

Both companies said that they will notify consumers to take their vehicles to their local dealerships to have the problems fixed free of charge.

Ford and Chrysler have informed the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the US Transportation Department about the safety issues of these vehicles and said that they were closely working with them.
