AMD slashes microprocessor prices, major benefit for India news
Sajeev Nair
26 December 2003
Mumbai: Taking a cue from its fierce competitor, semiconductor major Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has slashed prices of its microprocessors around the world between a range of 40 per cent and 2 per cent.

The slash in prices, which is due to intense competition in the semiconductor sector, is also expected to be mirrored in India, say industry watchers. However, they deny that there will be a rise in raw material prices in the international markets and add that the prices have been steady for the last couple of months.

The prices of Opteron CPUs were slashed between 40 per cent and 18 per cent, with Opteron 846 (40 per cent) topping the chart. Reduction was made in prices of various series of Opteron and Athlon.
