Referring to the launch of several new models by its competitors in the luxury car segment, Kronschnabl said BMW India was prepared to face the forthcoming competition.

"We are the segment leaders worldwide and we want to become the number one in India too," he adds.

According to him the company is in the process of completing its feasibility study on introducing Mini in India.

BMW India imports most of the components to roll out its vehicles at its Indian plant.

Queried about the localisation plans he says, "We have localised seats and door panels."

Speaking about the performance of the BMW Financial Services he says, nearly 40 per cent of the vehicles sold by the company last year were financed by the sister unit.

Apart from exceeding its sales target in 2007, BMW India is also going ahead of the target in terms of appointing dealers.

Currently having 9 dealers the company plans to appoint three more in Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Cochin.

"The earlier plan was to have 12 dealers by 2009 and the targeted number would be reached a year before," remarks Kronschnabl.
