Mumbai: As part of the largest expansion of its product line-up in its history, General Motors India has announced the start of the 'Chevrolet Indian revolution' and unveiled three new Chevrolet passenger models -Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, Chevrolet Aveo and Chevrolet Optra SRV.

All three vehicles will be built at GM's manufacturing facility in Halol, Gujarat. They will be reaching GM India's dealerships nationwide in the coming months.

"All three cars are international products with latest technology and built to our quality standards of the highest order. They have been re-engineered based on extensive testing across the country to meet the specific needs of our customers, local driving conditions and regulations," said GM India's President and Managing Director Rajeev Chaba.

Aveo U-VA: Styled by Italdesign's Giugiaro, the Aveo U-VA five-door premium hatchback as a vehicle for personal or family use. The Aveo U-VA is billed as one of the roomiest cars in its class and can accommodate up to five passengers in comfort.

The powertrain is modern with VGIS (variable geometry intake system) technology and has been fine tuned to provide class leading fuel economy and drivability

Chevrolet Aveo: The Chevrolet Aveo sedan was unveiled last year at the Shanghai Auto show and is due for launch in Europe this month and subsequently in China, the US, Canada and other markets like India.

This mid-size sedan scores on its impressive styling, generous space and advanced features that are normally found only in higher segment cars.

A bold front grille provides strong street presence and sleek character lines accentuated by strong edge lines give the Aveo a truly sporty look. The car, says the company, "has top of the line safety features including a hood design which ensures pedestrian safety. Its large exterior dimensions provide the basis for a roomy and luxurious interior. Headroom, shoulder room and hip room are among the best in its class."

The powertrain for this car is also modern with VGIS technology and has been fine-tuned to provide class-leading fuel economy along with drivability.

Chevrolet Optra SRV: Italdesign's Giugiaro styling with a sporty flavour both inside and out, the five-door Chevrolet Optra SRV is a contemporary "Sportsback." The exteriors sport almond shaped headlamps, Chrome plated pull type handles, sporty 15" alloys and a rear spoiler. The interiors have a silver tone sporty styling.

This is complemented by compact exterior dimensions and excellent driving dynamics which results in a package that has high appeal to young, design oriented drivers. The trendy new model builds on the heritage of the Optra sedan, which has been sold in India since 2003. It offers class-leading levels of space, comfort and handling. It also includes many of the same design features found in its sibling such as a 60-40 split-folding rear seatback for both people- and cargo-moving functionality.

Chevrolet says that the car has a top of the line feature package in line with its imagery. As a result of its impressive list of safety features, the Optra SRV has received the top rating from the American Insurance Association.

The unveiling of the new models follows GM India's launch of the 2006 NY edition of the Chevrolet Tavera. The latest member of the Chevrolet family, this MUV offers increased space for third-row occupants and a number of new and upgraded convenience and luxury features for both personal and commercial users.

The company is widening its dealership network this year from 77 sales points to 110 sales points. Besides, to ensure easy availability of parts, two additional parts distribution centres in Maharashtra and Delhi are being set up this year in addition to the two existing centres in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.

The company says through extensive localisation it has succeeded in reducing prices on most of the fast moving components of its cars.

GM India is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors Corporation. Besides the Chevrolet Tavera, GM India manufactures the Chevrolet Optra and Corsas at its facility in Halol, Gujarat. GM India also sells the imported Opel Vectra and Chevrolet Forester. Last year, it sold 30,837 vehicles, which represented an increase of 18 percent from 2004.
