New Delhi: HCL Infosystems (www.hclinfosystems.com), Indias premier information-enabling company, on 7 January announced the implementation of a wireless local area network (LAN) solution for the Amity Business School, institutions of Ritnand Balved Education Foundation (RBEF), a leading Noida-based premier educational institution.

This will enable Amity to go completely wireless, making it the first of its kind in the country to do so. HCL Insys is also engaged in other IT infrastructure projects with Amity in the areas of IT security, intranet, messaging and other IT management services.

The sprawling 15-acre campus of Amity on the link road between Noida and Delhi has been deployed all across with wireless intranet and Internet connections. Students, faculty members and visitors to the Amity campus will not require a phone jack or data point to get connected to the institutes network. They will have the ability to use their laptops/hand-held PDAs to communicate through e-mail, conduct library search, participate in an online discussion or surf the Net from anywhere on the campus.

The technology adopted is based on IEEE 802.11b standard operating at 11Mbps bandwidth using 2.4GHz direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS). The wireless access points are strategically positioned within the campus to ensure free roaming of laptops. These access points seamlessly integrate with the existing fibre-based wired network backbone of the campus. It provides authentication and security using wired equivalent privacy (WEP) standards.

HCL Insys is helping Amity achieve the same feat at the 2.1-acre campus of the Amity Business School at Saket, south Delhi, and the 120-acre campus of the Amity Business School at Education Valley in Manesar, Gurgaon.

The Amity Business School was established by RBEF and is promoted by the worldwide AKC group of companies. Dr Ashok K Chauhan is the chairman and chief Executive officer of the group and the founder president of RBEF.  It has been ranked 20th among the top business schools in the country and seventh among the top post-1990 business schools in India in a survey conducted by Outlook magazine in 2001.
