Mumbai:
The Fair & Lovely Foundation, an initiative by Hindustan
Lever Limited, invites applications for its Project
Saraswati scholarship for the year 2004. These scholarships,
for postgraduate studies, are granted to financially
deserving young women who have the aptitude, drive and
ambition to achieve their goals. Application forms can
be downloaded from www.hll.com. The last date for receiving
entries is June 5, 2004.
Project
Saraswati is one of the several projects undertaken
by the Fair & Lovely Foundation for the economic
empowerment of women. The projects programme directors
are Dr. Snehalata Deshmukh, ex-vice chancellor, Mumbai
University, and Padmashri Lila Poonawalla, founder and
chairperson, Lila Foundation, and chairperson, DeLaval.
In
the urban phase of Project Saraswati, scholarships of
up to Rsl lakh will be awarded to deserving students
from across the country, for any postgraduate course
within India. The scholarships will be given on the
basis of academic performance and a personal interview
by a panel of eminent judges.
Dr
Snehalata Deshmukh, ex-vice chancellor, Mumbai University
and one of the programme directors, said, Educating
a woman is the best way to empower her, and commitment
towards higher education helps empower underprivileged
women. This initiative of the Fair & Lovely Foundation
will encourage deserving young women gain higher education
and thus, will help empower them.
In
2003, the Foundation had awarded scholarships to 47
students.
