Delhi: IBM India, has announced the launch of the
world''s smallest full functional desktop PC, the new ThinkCentre
S50 ultra small. Weighing 5.9kg it is smaller than several
notebook PCs and measures just 28cm wide by 26cm deep
by 8.4cm high. It includes IBM''s patented Think Vantage
Technologies, which help reduce system-operating costs.
The
IBM ThinkCentre S50 ultra small is priced between Rs 38,000
and Rs48,000 depending upon the configuration.
Announcing
the launch, Neeraj Sharma, vice president, personal cdomputing
division, IBM India, said, "We have demonstrated
that we are focused on delivering the best of products
and services to our customers over the years. Our goal
has always been to meet varied needs of our desktop customers."
Sharma
added, "Considering that office space is shrinking
in nearly every industry, IBM is changing the way we view
desktop PCs. IBM continues to innovate on the desktop
and to develop industry-leading Think Vantage Technologies,
reducing lifecycle costs and simplifying the overall PC
ownership experience", he added.
Featuring
IBM ThinkVantage Design, the S50 ultra small is encased
in a tool-free durable steel chassis that provides a sturdy
pedestal for any desktop monitor. The customer can easily
remove all components inside the machine, such as the
hard disk and memory.
The
ThinkCentre S50 ultra small is 35 per cent smaller than
the current IBM ThinkCentre S50 and 8 per cent smaller
than a ThinkPad T41 notebook computer.
The
product features rescue and recovery, image ultra, access
button embedded security subsystem (ESS). Its desktop
functionality includes an internal power supply, a PCI
slot, a slim-line optical drive slot, one 3.5" internal
hard drive, and Intel Pro-1000 Ethernet. It also features
an innovative "caddy" that surrounds the
hard disk drive, locking it into place without the use
of tools or screws. Rubber bumpers on the caddy decrease
vibration and deliver quiet operation.
