M&M February tractor sales up 17 per cent; UV sales decline 3 per cent news

Mahindra & Mahindra has reported total tractor sales of 6,655 units for the month of February 2006 as compared to 5,680 units during the same month of pervious year - an increase of 17.17 per cent.

Domestic sales of tractors increased by 20 per cent to 6,033 units as compared to 5,034 units during February 2005. Exports declined by 4 per cent to 622 units from 646 units.

Cumulative sales of tractors for the April 2005-February 2006 period increased 31 per cent to 77,702 units from 59,095 units.

Sales of passenger and utility vehicles by M&M, excluding LCV sales, declined 3 per cent to 9,042 units from 9,300 units during February 2005. LCV sales declined by 25 per cent to 416 units from 551 units during the same month a year ago. Total sales of four-wheel vehicles declined by 4 per cent for the month to 9,458 units from 9,851 units.

The company''s best-selling SUV model Scorpio registered a growth of 26 per cent for the month to 2,297 units from 1,830 units.

Sales of three-wheelers declined by 16 per cent for the month to 1,821 units as compared to 2,175 units in February 2005.

Cumulative volume sales of passenger and utility vehicles, including LCV''s but excluding exports, for the April 2005 to February 2006 period increased marginally to 108,573 units from 107,511 units during the same period of last year.

The company has transferred its LCV business including assembly facilities to its joint venture with International Truck & Engine Corp of US.

M&M closed at Rs610.95 (up 3.85 per cent) on the NSE today.
