K Swamy, chairman, RK Swamy BBDO Advertising, died here
after a brief illness. He was 80 and is survived by his
wife, two sons and four daughters.
Swamy
was acknowledged as one of the prime movers of the advertising
industry and his mentoring and encouragement provided
opportunities for people to grow under his guidance.
He
fashioned and influenced the development of two leading
agencies in the country. The first part of his career
was devoted to the development of JWT/HTA. And, when
50 years old, he promoted RK Swamy Advertising Associates,
based in Chennai.
The
agency he started grew to be among the top 10 agencies
in India in the first five years of its operations.
He is also credited with developing Chennai as one of
the key advertisement centres in the country.
