New Delhi: Reliance Communications has announced
having rolled out service to six lakh subscribers till
March 2007 under the universal service obligation fund
(USOF) aimed at increased penetration of telephone services
in rural India.
A
statement from the company quotes Sanjeev Govil, head,
national rural marketing, Reliance Communications, "Reliance
Communications has provided telephone connections to 40,000
villages hitherto devoid of any phones under this particular
programme. We are able to give impetus to the government''s
rural initiative.".
The
company has taken initiatives through special offers and
subsidized call rates for reaching out to its customers
in these areas, the statement said.
Reliance
Communications had signed an agreement with the Department
of Telecommunications two years ago which enables it to
receive subsidies for providing telephone connection to
every subscriber in the rural areas.
