Satyam's "Futurus" delivers grid computing solutions to CDAC Trivandrum news
29 April 2006

Hyderabad: Satyam Computer Services has developed the grid computing technology solution in its Business Solutions Lab, "Futurus," to be deployed at the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), Trivandrum. The technology will render support to the Resource Centre for Cyber Forensics (RCCF) at CDAC.

RCCF at CDAC, a premier institution in India engaged in research and development in Cyber Forensics, was looking for a solution to dramatically reduce the time required to crack encrypted files and sensitive data in its drive against cyber crime.

Grid Computing is a low-cost feasible solution, offering excellent throughput, high-computing speed and an extremely efficient platform required in simulation and security research.

Satyam implemented the Grid Computing solution at RCCF by building the Grid infrastructure, developing and demonstrating a prototype application in Futurus, and training RCCF personnel.

Satyam's Grid-enabled prototype in the area of forensics was 40 times faster than the existing application which ran on a stand alone server. The run time of the application reduced from 3.5 days on the stand-alone to 1 hour 56 minutes on a grid of 50 nodes, with savings of more than 4,000 per cent.

R B Ramani, additional director, CDAC said, "This technology changed our thinking about what can be achieved. With access to the kind of power the Grid provides, we can unshackle the constraints we were previously bound to and begin thinking of new and innovative ways to approach cyber-forensics."

He further added, "Satyam showed us a clear business case for adopting this technology. They demonstrated a significant performance improvement achievable at a low cost and effort. It was easy to get our applications Grid enabled, and our users came up to speed quickly on how to work with the new tool."

"Satyam invested in Futurus to develop futuristic, business-case driven solutions for clients. We are delighted to deliver such a solution to CDAC", said G B Prabhat, director, consulting and enterprise solutions at Satyam.
