Pune:
Thermax Babcock & Wilcox (TBW), the leading captive
power and co-generation boiler company, has bagged a prestigious
order from Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) worth Rs 220 million
to install two high-end boilers at its Guwahati refinery.
For
TBW, this comes at a very opportune time as the company
is witnessing robust business from Indian multinational
corporations as well as global Fortune 500 giants like
Petronas.
The
two 50 TPH, 39 kg/cm2g, 450 degree C oil and natural
gas fired bi-drum, bottom supported boilers will be
installed in August 2003. The order was bagged amidst
stiff competition on LSTK (lump-sum turnkey) basis including
supply of the boiler, auxiliaries, complete civil foundation
work and erection and commissioning.
Says
K K Diwakar, group general manager (marketing), TBW:
The scope of supply is large, consisting of substantial
battery limit piping, advanced instrumentation and an
advanced Foxboro IA distributed control system for the
boiler controls.
Adds
Shyam Bhutada, senior manager (marketing), TBW: Further,
the deaerator, feedwater pumps and oil pumps are designed
to cater to the new as well as the existing boilers.
The new boilers when commissioned will help IOC to use
the existing boilers as a standby steam source for their
power plant which is critical to their operation.
The boiler is designed to fire low sulphur heavy oil,
light oil, naphtha and natural gas through a TBW make
oil and gas burner.
The
Rs 1,15,039-crore IOC, which has seven refineries across
India, has embarked on a massive Rs 500-crore expansion
work wherein its boilers, piping and layout will be
upgraded and new equipment installed. IOCs association
with TBW has evolved over a period of time with initial
orders for repairs and maintenance at IOC Baroda and
IOC Digboi.
For
IOC Guwahati, which is the oldest refinery in India
set up in 1962, TBW has provided quality repair and
maintenance work. With the new order, the relationship
has now matured, further giving TBW an opportunity to
serve the oldest player in the Indian oil sector.
TBW,
a 60:40 joint venture between Thermax and Babcock &
Wilcox, USA, manufactures and installs a vast range
of steam generation systems for captive and co-generation
power plants and the process industry. The companys
quality system is certified under ISO 9001.
TBW
also has its manufacturing approved under the American
Society of Mechanical Engineers for power boilers, unfired
pressure vessels and pressure piping. TBW acquired ISO
9001 certification in 1994 with the latest revision
in 1997 for the design, manufacture, supply, erection
and commissioning of boilers.
