Thiruvananthapuram:
Noted European producer-director John Cary has joined
Toonz India and Toonz USA as its director (European marketing).
The announcement was made today by Bill Dennis, president
and CEO, Toonz.
Cary
brings with him 30 years of media experience, of which
he has been actively engaged producing animation for 15.
He began his career as an editor on the Hanna Barbera
series, The Addams Family, in 1973. Later he moved
to the Richard Williams Studio where he worked on The
Return of the Pink Panther and then to BBC and commercials.
He
has a detailed and comprehensive working knowledge of
filmmaking from script to screen. During the eighties
he edited The Snowman for TVC/Recorded. He made
three short cinema films for Rank before teaming up with
Jerry Hibbert and Graham Ralph in 1988. In 1994 he founded
the British Animation Training Scheme, joined the National
and Television School as head of animation, sat on the
Guild of British Animation, and the PACT animation committee.
He
has provided training all over Europe for the Media Programme
in production, budgeting, scheduling and marketing, and
sat on the European Training Network Committee. He undertook
a major training exercise for the British Overseas Development
Agency in central Russia. He has been a production consultant
for S 4C Television for their series Shakespeare,
The Animated Tales, The Bible in Animation, The Canterbury
Tales and their feature film The Miracle Maker.
He
has a wide experience of working with overseas studios
in Eastern Europe, Spain and India. He produced Spider!
for BBC with Graham Ralph in 1992, followed by Rhinegold
for S4C and Williams Wish Wellingtons for the BBC.
In 1998 he brought to the screen 52 new episodes of The
Adventures of Captain Pugwash for Gullane Entertainment/ITV,
followed by Flash Boyfriend a short teenage series
for Trouble TV, titles for Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor
Dreamcoat for the Really Useful Group, and Katya
and the Nutcracker, a Christmas special for ITV.
He
originated a new way of budgeting, scheduling and cost-tracking
while making the Captain Pugwash series, which
led to each episode being brought in under budget, ahead
of time and to maximum quality winning an Indy
Award for Best Animation in 1998.
Commenting
on the appointment, Dennis characterised Cary as a leader
in the European animation community. "I''m very pleased
