Wockhardt Ltd has signed its first in-licensing agreement
in the anti-wrinkle segment of dermatology products
with Italy''s Syrio Pharma S P A to market the Milan-based
firms B-Lift range of skincare products.
Last
week, the company had announced having signed an in-licensing
agreement with the US-based Advanced Biotechnologies
Inc to market a patent-protected Kelcote silicone gel
used in the treatment of scars from accidents, burns,
surgery and acne as well as skin disorders such as dermatitis
and varicella. (See: Wockhardt
to introduce treatment for dermatological scars)
The
B-Lift range is based on a Botox like peptide and used
for anti-ageing. However, unlike Botox, B-Lift said
to be available as a gel and can be used on all patients.
Wockhardt says the gel-based preparation is known to
have a better safety profile than Botox.
Wockhardt
will market the range, which would also include a topical
gel for men.
In
a regulatory filing, Wockhardt chairman Habil Khorakiwala
is stated as saying, "Wockhardt has always strived
to introduce newer and better products for the benefit
of
Indian patients. We will soon introduce the B-Lift range
of products to cater to patients seeking advanced skin
renewal treatment in India."
The
company plans to introduce the product range in the
third quarter of 2007. IT was first launched in 2003
in Italy. The statement says that multi-country clinical
data has proven its efficacy and safety.
The
value of the anti-ageing segment in India is estimated
at Rs200 crore, which Wockhardt expects would grow exponentially
in the next two years with increasing lifestyle changes.
Wockhardt
is in the process of assembling a specialiased field
force to promote its skincare range among dermatologists.
