Mumbai: O P Bhatt, managing director of State Bank of India, has been appointed chairman of the bank, an official announcement said on Friday.

Bhatt replaces A K Purwar who retired as chairman of the country's largest commercial bank on May 31 this year.

T S Bhatacharya, another managing director, has been acting chairman of the bank since Purwar's retirement.
