The manufacture of vitamin A acetate involves 12 stages of conversion process from either lemon grass oil (citral) or pseudo-ionone. Two parallel streams are simultaneously operated to produce C14 aldehyde and 1-pentol. The critical process involves reaction of C14 aldehyde and 1-pentol by using Grignard’s reaction.
