Mumbai:
Reliance Retail today opened the first of its 30 large
retail format hypermarket in Ahmedabad. The national roll
out of these superstores pan India will take place by
the end of 2007 at an investment of over Rs375 crore.
Last
year Reliance Retail unveiled Reliance Fresh, its fresh
food format store followed by Reliance Digital, consumer
electronics stores.
The
Ahmedabad hypermarket is spread over 165,000 sq ft and
stocks over 95,000 products ranging full line of groceries,
apparel and consumer white goods.
Six
malls under the Reliance Mart brand are scheduled for
launch in the national capital region, five in Punjab
and Andhra Pradesh each, three in Gujarat and two in Bangalore.
Unveiling
the hypermarket, K Radhakrishnan, CEO, Reliance Hypermarket
said, "The company will open 30 hypermarkets by this
year end of 40,000-60,000 sq ft each," though he
did not disclose the investments in the individual stores.
The
company says that it plans over 500 such superstores by
2010.
