Indian smartphone and tablet manufacturer Micromax has started manufacturing mobile phones at its Rudraprayag facility in Uttarakhand.

Micromax, the second-largest smartphone vendor in India, currently manufactures all LEDs and tablets at its Rudraprayag manufacturing plant.

Production of mobile phones is at a nascent stage as the company started manufacturing mobile phones only a couple of months ago.

However, Micromax is the second largest players in both mobile phone and tablet PC market in India.

As per industry data, the company had a 13 per cent market share in the mobile phone segment and 16 per cent in smartphone market in last quarter of 2013, according to market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC).

Micromax had an 8.9-per cent market share in Indian tablet PC segment, with total sales of 4.14 million units in calendar year 2013.

The company expects revenue in the 2013-14 financial year to be around $1 billion (over Rs6,000 crore) against Rs3,168 crore in the previous financial year (2012-13).

Micromax believes it could improve its market share at a time when Nokia is closing its Chennai plant, which could bring down its sales in India as well as exports from the country.
