Xiaomi is reported to be gearing up to start using its own mobile chipsets in handsets. It currently uses Qualcomm or MediaTek chipsets, except in the Redmi 2A, which uses the Leadcore chipset.

A report in MyDrivers said Xiaomi would release two different versions of its own chipset with the first one to be used for low-end devices such as the Redmi series while the second one, would be a high-end octa-core processor sporting chip which would be seen in its mid-range devices.

However, it is expected that the company would continue to rely on Qualcomm processors for high-end devices such as the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 5.

Korean giant Samsung had also switched to Exynos chipset from Qualcomm.

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge and S6 edge+ use Exynos chipsets while manufacturers like Apple and Huawei also power their own smartphones and are not dependent on third party chipset manufacturers.

According to GizmoChina, the company would be expected to introduce the new chipsets by early 2016, which could come as a big blow to Qualcomm and MediaTek.

Xiaomi's low-end devices use MediaTek processors while its mid-range and flagship devices use Qualcomm chipsets.

According to the grapevine the company would be launching two different versions of its own chipset. The first one would be used for low-end devices such as the Redmi series.

Also, the second one, which would be a high-end octa-core processor sporting chip would be seen in the mid-range devices.

Xiaomi would, however, continue to depend on Qualcomm processors for its high-end devices such as the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 5. According to GizmoChina, ''Premium devices like the Xiaomi Mi Note and Mi 5 will most likely use Qualcomm's flagship chipsets.''

With the company developing its own process, it was expected that the prices of Xiaomi phones might be lowered even more. However, there had been no official confirmation about its own chipset venture from the company.
