Markets have made smart recovery from its day's lows, but closed in red. Capital goods, realty and banking indices witness selling pressure. The BSE midcap and smallcap indices are also closed in red. However, IT, oil & gas and FMCG stocks closed with marginal gain. Technology stocks traded strong throughout the day's trade as rupee continue to depreciate, but ended with bit gain. The Sensex closed down 33.70 points or 0.19% at 17339.31, and the Nifty was down 9.15 points or 0.18% at 5135.50. About 1258 shares have advanced, 1631 shares declined, and 197 shares are unchanged. The BSE capital goods index was down 2.31% or 312.93 points at 13641. Bharat Electronics, BHEL, BEML, Larsen, Punj Lloyd, ABB fell. The BSE realty index was down 1.55% or 129.45 points at 8207.58. Indiabulls Real, DLF, Parsvnath, HDIL, Sobha Developer, Unitech slipped. The BSE bankex was down 0.79% or 71.79 points at 9016.91. Axis Bank, Bank of India, Kotak Mahindra, Bank of Baroda, ICICI Bank, Karnataka Bank closed down. The BSE metal was down 0.64% or 101.97 points at 15813.84. Sesa Goa, SAIL, Jindal Steel, Ispat Industries, Hindalco, JSW Steel ended negative. The BSE IT index was up 0.68% or 29.94 points at 4413.30. TCS, Mphasis, Patni Computer, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech gained. The BSE FMCG index was up 0.68% or 78.95 points at 11723.46.Colgate, Godrej Consumer, HUL, Tata Tea, Britannia, ITC moved up. The BSE auto index was up 0.31% or 14.78 points at 4,786.88. Bosch, M&M, Punj Tractors, Maruti Suzuki, Bharat Forge, Hero Honda closed up. The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 14433.01 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 33563.9 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 6599.52 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 54596.43 crore. Asian markets were trading mixed. China's Shanghai Composite rose 0.61% or 22.65 points at 3,756.159. Japan's Nikkei advanced 0.93% or 130.23 points at 14,179.49. Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted gained 1.07% or 94.66 points at 8,952.03. However, Hong Kong's Hang Seng was down 0.24% or 62.46 points at 26,199.67. Singapore's Straits Times fell 0.04% or 1.33 points at 3,247.42. South Korea's Seoul Composite declined 0.06% or 1.19 points at 1,857.87.
