Delhi: Jet Airways from the private sector and NTPC
Ltd, from the public sector have been presented the inaugural
'BML Munjal awards for excellence in learning and development
tools'. The BML Munjal awards recognise companies that
are consistently using training and learning as a source
of competitive advantage.
The
BML Munjal award acknowledged NTPC and Jet for giving
optimum importance to knowledge and training in an environment
where people- resources have emerged as a vital differentiator
in productivity, performance and competitiveness.
Naresh
Goyal, chairman, Jet Airways, and G K Agarwal, executive
director, personnel, NTPC Limited, received the awards
from civil aviation minister Praful Patel, in New Delhi.
"The
objective of these awards is to recognize the role played
by learning, training and development in the corporate
sectorm - something of vital importance and one which
is rarely acknowledged," said Sunil K Munjal, MD,
Hero Corporate Service Ltd.. "The awards are a validation
of NTPC and Jet's efforts towards treating training and
learning as investments, rather than expenses The Indian
economy is going through exciting times. It is imperative
for companies that aim to be globally competitive to have
these vital initiatives so as meet exacting international
standards."
The
winners were chosen by an independent jury headed by Deepak
Parekh of HDFC, and comprising Shobana Bhartia of Hindustan
Times Group, Arun Maira of BCG Consulting, Ajay Sriram
of SRF, Dr Vinayshil Gautam of IIT Delhi, Tarun Das, chief
mentor, CII and Sunil Kant Munjal, chairman, Hero Corporate
Service Ltd,
According
to Brij Mohan Lall Munjal, chairman, Hero Corporate Service
Ltd., said, "I appreciate the endeavor of Hero Mindmine
Institute of conceptualising India's first award on training,
learning and human resources development. Hero Mindmine
Institute aims at introducing more categories to the awards
in ensuing years."
Hero
Mindmine Institute is an independent think-tank that has
N R Narayana Murthy, Deepak Parekh and R A Mashelkar on
its advisory board.
