FYGL is a new global undertaking, which brings together outstanding leaders below the age of 40, who have committed to devote part of their knowledge and energy over the next five years to collectively work towards a better future. Drawn from a pool of 8,000 candidates from around the world, the 'young global leader' nominated in 2005 have been selected by a nomination committee of 28 eminent international media leaders.

According to Schwab, "The Forum of Young Global Leaders will be a strong force from all walks of life to shake up traditional thinking and to bring a bold, forward-looking approach to the world." The World Economic Forum has NGO consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

Those nominated in 2005 comprise 57 political leaders, including heads of state, ministers and parliamentarians, 97 from the business sector, mostly chief executive officers and successful entrepreneurs, 28 intellectual leaders, 27 societal leaders, 23 active opinion leaders and five cultural leaders. Women make up 30 per cent.

Khemka has been principally involved in establishing and building SUN Group's asset management, private equity and venture capital businesses in India, Russia, Europe and the US. He has also led SUN's entry into the Indian technology sector.

Moreover, Khemka has been actively involved in individual company start-ups in Europe and the US and is on the boards of flagship ventures of the SUN Group, including SUN Interbrew, the Group's brewery joint venture in Russia and Ukraine.

Says Khemka on his selection,"I believe it will be a wonderful opportunity to learn and also to work with leaders from around the world on initiatives that can contribute to positive global change in critical areas such as social and economic development, the environment, justice and equity and corporate social responsibility."

In 1998, he founded the Indian NGO, Youthreach, whose main mission is to galvanise young business people in India to take ownership of the country's community and social challenges. His philanthropic focus includes issues related to the environment, sustainable rural development, microfinance, and children and youth. Khemka holds a BA in history from Cambridge University and an MBA from Harvard University.
