Dr YSP Thorat MD, NABARD has been appointed chairman in a government notification issued today. Dr Thorat holds a doctorate in economics and degrees in political science and law.

Prior to joining NABARD in 2004, he was executive director RBI.

And has held directorships as RBI nominee on the boards of Oriental Bank of Commerce, Punjab National Bank, IDFC, EXIM Bank and ECGC.Known for his sharp policy insight, Dr. Thorat''s recent Report on the Credit Deposit Ratio (CDR) has been accepted by the government of India.

Thorat is chairman NABCONS, advisory board for micro finance development and equity fund, Incidentally he is the son of the illustrious General S P P Thorat. And his wife, Usha Thorat, is deputy governor, Reserve Bank of India.
