Indian  auto major Bajaj Auto yesterday announced the start of production of its most powerful motorcycle which is powered by a 400 cc engine. The launch of the premium category product is scheduled for the middle of next month.

The company continues to be counted among the best motorcycle producers in India with the highly competitive Pulsar range leading the market in the 150 cc plus category.

According to commentators, the launch of a 400cc motorcycle is likely to change the dynamics of its portfolio. The Indian Express cited sources as saying, the new motorcycle would also likely to be part of the Pulsar range.

''We are proud to announce this historic roll out at Chakan with our all women assembly line. Our new bike will set new benchmarks in its segment,'' Bajaj Auto president (Motorcycle Business) Eric Vas said.

He added that while there was a lot of buzz and its features, bike enthusiasts would have to wait for some time, till the company shared details of the new offering during the launch next month.

However, according to sources, the bike would be the Pulsar CS 400 cruiser but the actual name of the bike was not clear yet.

According to the company, what made the roll-out even more special was the fact that the assembly line, which had produced the powerful bikes was fully managed engineers. ''This is a milestone event for Bajaj Auto as a manufacturer embracing the best technology as well an organisation committed to gender diversity,'' the company said.

The company added that the launch comes 15 years after its iconic Pulsar brand which went on to define the sports motorcycle market in India.
