Fiat looks to SAARC countries to boost export volumes news

Fiat India says that it was considering export of its cars in South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries to boost its export volumes.

Fiat India, marketing head Tarun Khanna told reporters that the company was looking to export its cars Palio, Linea and Punto in SAARC countries including Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh as these were right hand driving countries.

The company has exported over 2,000 units to South Africa, which includes 1,100 units of Punto, 360 units of Linea and 650 units of Palio. He added that the company started exporting last year and has so far exported only to South Africa.

Khanna said the company was looking to roll out high powered versions of Linea and CNG Punto following its launch of two variants of Grand Punto this year.

Khanna however, declined to give any time frame for the launches.

With exports growth projected at 60 per cent on the back of its new launches this year, the Fiat - Tata Motors joint venture is looking to sell 40,000 units.
