Mumbai:
IDC''s Enterprise Server Tracker Report for 2Q 2003 indicates
that IBM India recorded the highest revenue market share
growth of 7-percentage points year-on-year, among all
vendors in the overall servers market and grew by over
100 per cent to 3,455 units from 1,648 units (in 2Q 2002).
IBM
also registered the highest revenue market share increase
year-on-year in the RISC/Unix servers segment by 4.1-percentage
points in 2Q 2003, as well as in the x86 servers (Intel
Servers) segment, by 1.9-percentage points in 2Q 2003.
This significant growth brings IBM closer to the top position
by reducing the margin between the current leader and
itself.
In
1H 2003, IBM India recorded a year-on-year revenue market
share growth of 9.3-percentage points in the overall server
market, the highest by any vendor in the country. IBM
repeated this feat in the Unix and x86 server segments
as well, with revenue market share growth of 7.7-percentage
points and 8.1-percentage points year-on-year in 1H 2003.
In 1H 2003 IBM grew by over 100 per cent to 7,039 units
from 2,983 units (in 1H 2002).
Says
IBM India vice-president and country manager (systems
group) Swarup Choudhury: "IBM is the most comprehensive
server company in the world. We will continue to set new
standards for technology innovation and pursue open industry
standards, to give our customers the end-to-end integrated
and cost-effective solutions that they demand. In India
we have gained considerable momentum, thus outperforming
competition."
"IBM''s
ability to provide a very broad portfolio of server solutions
was one of the key underpinnings of its success,"
says Rajnish Arora, senior programme manager (enterprise
servers and workstations), IDC Asia/Pacific. "Competitive
pricing was pivotal to the strong performance of IBM''s
eServer zSeries and xSeries businesses in the Asean and
India region."
