Panaji:
PCS Industries Ltd is planning to set up a manufacturing
plant in Goa for manufacturing computer hardware, which
is expected to roll out 1,000 personal computers and 4,000
servers per month.
The
plant is expected to commence operations by March 2004
and the finished products will be sold in the domestic
market, say industry sources.
The
company is mainly targeting Goa for the sales of the PCs
and servers, cashing in on the Cyberage scheme declared
by that state government. Under the scheme, the Goan government
is planning to offer free computers to 10,000 students
in this academic year.
At
present, PCS Industries has a manufacturing unit at Jabalali,
Dubai, which caters to the international market and the
Goan plant coming up near Mapusa is slated to offer jobs
to around 100 computer literates.
The
strategic location of Goa is the reason to set up the
plant in the state by the company, which had earlier explored
other places, including Pondicherry, the sources add.
