Mamata moves Governor again as Dasmunshi blames Buddha for Singur stalemate news
20 September 2008

Mumbai: Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee met West Bengal governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi today demanding fresh talks with the state government to resolve the Singur issue even as union minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said the West Bengal chief minister had not done ''adequate homework" on a rehabilitation package before signing the agreement with the Trinamool Congress.

''The chief minister is singularly responsible for the (Singur) impasse. I can say with responsibility that before acquiring the land there, he had not discussed it even within the Left Front," Dasmunsi said at a convention of Congress party's South Kolkata unit.

Mamata Banerjee who discussed the issue with the governor for well over an hour, sought implementation of the agreement to return land to ''unwilling" farmers from the Tata Motors' car project at Singur.

She said her party wanted a solution to the Singur imbroglio ''in the interest of the people and West Bengal'', reached with chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on 7 September.

''I informed the governor that the state government deviated from the agreement and unilaterally announced a rehabilitation package when he was away in Delhi,'' she said.

Dasmunshi also accused the chief minister of "misleading" the people and land-losers at Singur in his agreement with the Trinamool Congress.

The state the government had promised to return maximum amount of land from the project area to land losers, knowing well that it would not be possible, he pointed out.
