Nano to sell through showrooms across six more states news
20 November 2010

With Tata Motors ending its booking for the world's cheapest car, car buyers in Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh will finally be able to purchase their cars directly from show rooms.

In October the car maker started open sales of the Rs1-lakh car in Maharashtra, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka to allow customers to purchase the cars directly from dealers instead of having to book them.

''Customers in these states that have not booked a Nano so far can now purchase the Nano directly from showrooms,'' the company said in a statement.

When Tata Motors opened sales of the Nano in March 2009, it decided to sell the car through a booking mode as it expected a huge demand and limited production capacity at Pantnagar in Himachal Pradesh.

Also the company was forced to move the Nano mother plant to from Singur in West Benal to Sanand in Gujarat following protests against land acquisition for the plant.

The Sanand plant went into commercial production in June, speeding up delivery and meeting most of the initial bookings registered last year.
