Tata Motors has announced the launch a new version of its sports utility vehicle
(SUV) Safari. The car has a starting price of Rs7.33 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). According
to a press release, the new variant uses the new generation 2.2 VTT Dicor engine
that has a 16-valve Dual Over Head Camshaft (DOHC), operated by a 32 bit electronic
control unit. The engine has a specially designed turbocharger incorporating Variable
Turbine Technology (VTT), which substantially raises the maximum power and torque
ratings to 140 PS (at 3000 rpm) and 320 Nm (at 2200 rpm) respectively. The engine
is also quieter and more fuel efficient than previous variants. Enhancements
include a redesigned look in the front and rear exteriors, two tone beige interiors,
a stylish day and night instrument panel, and tubeless tyres as standard fitment.
The car also has several thoughtful new features, such as follow-me-home headlights,
express-down power windows, and a convenient car locating feature that helps in
locating the car in a crowded parking lot at night. The
new variant comes in two new colours, Cycus grey and Mountain green. It also comes
with an enhanced warranty of two years or 75000 kms, whichever is earlier. Customers
can choose to opt for an additional 2 years'' warranty through the extended warranty
programme. The
entry level TCIC diesel model has all the aesthetic and convenience features of
the entry level 2.2 DICOR VTT model, and is priced lower at Rs6.47 lakh (ex-showroom
Delhi). Amongst
the safest SUVs in its category, the Safari meets full frontal crash safety norms
of Europe, and the more expensive variants come with dual airbags and ABS with
EBD. It also boasts best-in-class rear seat comfort, and a unique camera-aided
reverse guidance system. Tata
Motors sold nearly 16,000 units of the car in 2006-07 in India, and has produced
more than 69,000 vehicles till date.margins.
