The
latest National Readership Survey has thrown up a few
surprises. Although Dainik Jagran retains its
position as India's most widely read newspaper, the
biggest surprise is India's most widely circulated English
daily is not among the top 10 in terms of its readership.
The Times of India has fallen to No.11 from No.9,
reports CNBC-TV18.
Tamil
daily, Dinakaran has moved to No. 8 from No.39
last year. Among English dailies, The Hindu has
displaced Hindustan Times as the second most
widely read English daily.
"Dinakaran
has made it to the top ten list because of aggressive
pricing of 30 paise per copy and its marketing tie up
with Sun TV,"
said N D Badrinath, director, client service, AC Nielsen
ORG MARG.
On
an average, four new magazines were launched every month
over the past two years. But NRS indicates that overall,
magazines lost 12 per cent of their reach.
