Mumbai:
The three-day Ellora-Aurangabad festival commencing
on December 11, 2004, Will feature art, history and
cultural heritage of the region through classical dance
recitals, music, folk dances, kavi sammelan, ghazhals,
among others.
Gracing
the event will be performances by Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia,
Pt. Jasraj, local folk artists, display of local handloom
and handicrafts like paithani, himroo, bidri and
paperwork. Other attractions include a heritage walk
for senior citizens, inter-school and collegiate athletic
and sports events.
Speaking
at a press briefing, K Bhoge, divisional commissioner
and chairman, festival committee, said, " We aim
to place Aurangabad back on the map for its cultural
and industrial appeal. Specialised agencies have been
appointed to handle the multifaced activities for the
Ellora-Aurangabad festival, to infuse professionalism
into the organisation of the event."
The
event has the guidance of noted authorities such as
distinguished historian, Dr R S Morwanchikar.
Also launched at the press was a detailed map and tourist
guide of Aurangabad. "This initiative was necessary
as prior to this, there was no dedicated quality tourist
map of the city." commented Balbir Singh Mayal,
president of the 'travel agent's association'. "It
has handy dockets with informative panels that include
data and directions
to all the attractions in Aurangabad and other amenities
such as hotels, transport lines, etc," added Mayal.
