Premji is next only to Bill Gates now
Mumbai: The unassuming and very modest CEO of Wipro, Mr. Azim Premji, was once again in the limelight. Thanks to a stupendous run the Wipro shares have been having at the stock markets, Mr. Premji – who holds 75 per cent of the company – finds himself in the news for being the second richest man on this earth – next only to the legendary Bill Gates.
Despite being in the limelight, Mr. Premji was very modest about this distinction. Speaking at a ceremony where he received the JRD Corporate Leadership award, he said that we are in an unique point in time where it is possible for us to generate unprecedented wealth through knowledge. He said, that for once the competitive advantage of organisations and nations is not based on national resources, but on the strength of ideas.
With the market cap of Wipro standing at a huge Rs. 220,533 crore, the 75 per cent holding of Mr. Premji places his net worth at a whopping $38 billion.
Mr. Premji was confident that, given the vast pool of talent in our country, India can carve a place for itself in the global economy, provided it had the right leadership direction and talent.
