Jack Welch gets $93 million
Fairfield, Connecticut: Jack Welch, chairman and chief executive of General Electric received a whopping $ 93.1 million as compensation in 1999, GE's most successful year in 108 years. Mr Welch, whose income from the company rose 61 per cent during the year from the previous year's level, is due to retire next year.
Mallya contests RS seat
Bangalore: UB group chairman Vijay Mallya filed his nomination papers on 14 March for a seat in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian parliament. This political debut for Mr Mallya is supported by the Janata Dal (United).

L.N. Mittal richest Asian in UK
London: Ispat International chief, Lakshmi Narian Mittal, has just emerged as the richest Asian in Great Britain. In doing so, he has displaced the Hinduja family which has occupied the coveted spot for several years now.
Mr. Mittal who is valued at GBP 2.2 billion, recently launched the Asian digital film channel and has branched into the media business in addition to his ever-growing steel business.
