Vijay Kumar Gulhati Director (Technical), SAIL

Mumbai: Vijay Kumar Gulhati has assumed office as director (technical) of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). Prior to this, he was executive director in-charge (projects & special steels), SAIL.

Gulhati (57) joined SAIL''s Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) in 1972 after completing his graduation in mechanical engineering from Delhi College of Engineering. Over the past 31 years Gulati has worked in different capacities in the operations and maintenance functions in a number of areas, including iron ore sintering, handling and processing of bulk raw material, and integrated steel plant maintenance.

He was executive director (personnel & administration) of DSP during 2003-06. In 2006,. Gulhati was transferred to SAIL''s corporate office as executive director (business planning) with responsibilities that included business development for the company, mergers & acquisitions, raw material resource development, information technology and quality assurance.

In May 2007, he took over as executive director in-charge (projects) with the responsibility of implementing all expansion and modernisation schemes under SAIL''s corporate plan-2010. He also looked after SAIL''s special steels plants at Durgapur, Salem and Bhadravati during this period.

Gulhati has honed his management skills through training at a number of premier institutions and steel plants in India and abroad. He has visited a number of countries all over the world in the course of his career to present technical papers as well.
